New Funding for Extensive Mapping of N2O Emissions in Denmark

The Danish Government has allocated a fund of 5M DKK (€ 670k) aimed at improving the understanding of nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Danish wastewater treatment plants.

The primary purpose of the funding is to obtain better and more precise values for the climate gas reporting of the utility sector.

Secondly, the funds will allow utility companies to explore actions for reducing N2O emission, whereby a better basis can be achieved for estimating CO2 shadow prices of reduction initiatives. Finally, the intention is that the investigations at the funded utilities will serve as a basis for future reductions of climate gas emissions and national regulation of such emissions.

The funding period is 2018-2019, and the details (in Danish) can be found at the homepage of the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate.
